Η Θέση μας για τον Καπιταλισμό: Τι Είναι και Γιατί Πρέπει να Είμαστε Εναντίον Του

Θεωρούμε ότι ο καπιταλισμός είναι το θεμελιώδες κοινωνικό πρόβλημα που πρέπει να αντιμετωπίσει η Αριστερά, και μπορεί να αντιμετωπιστεί επαρκώς μόνο εάν έχουμε ξεκάθαρη κατανόηση του τι είδους πρόβλημα είναι. Με αυτό κατά νου, θεωρούμε απαραίτητο να επαναδιατυπώσουμε και να απαντήσουμε ξανά στο ερώτημα: τι είναι ο καπιταλισμός και γιατί πρέπει να είμαστε εναντίον του; Αυτό το έγγραφο είναι η απάντησή μας σε αυτήν την ερώτηση. Ελπίζουμε ότι το έγγραφό μας θα αναζωπυρώσει τις συζητήσεις για τη φύση του καπιταλισμού και τι πρέπει να γίνει γι ‘αυτόν, θέτοντας το πρόβλημα του καπιταλισμού ξανά στο προσκήνιο του αριστερού λόγου.

Our Position on Capitalism: What It Is, and Why We Should Be Against It

We consider capitalism to be the fundamental social problem that the Left needs to tackle, and it can only be tackled adequately if we have a clear understanding of what kind of problem it is. With that in mind, we consider it necessary to re-state and re-answer the question: what is capitalism and why should we be against it? This document is our response to this question. We hope that our document will rekindle debates about the nature of capitalism and what is to be done about it, putting the problem of capitalism again at the forefront of Leftist discourse.

Το δικό μας καθήκον ως Κύπριοι αριστεροί είναι να οικοδομήσουμε ένα εργατικό αντικαπιταλιστικό κίνημα που θα στηρίξει τους εργαζομένους σε Παλαιστίνη και Ισραήλ και θα συμβάλει στη επίλυση των διάφορων εθνοτικών διαμαχών στην περιοχή διαμέσου της ανατροπής του καπιταλισμού που τις δημιουργεί και της οικοδόμησης του σοσιαλισμού που θα τις εξαλείψει.

Culture and the Left

The result of the decline of bourgeois culture is that its best aspects have been forgotten even by most bourgeois intellectuals, erased by postmodernism, with the possible exception of advances in the natural sciences. There appear to be very few intellectuals, either from the bourgeois or the proletarian class, that have received an education in the best traditions of the past and who can thus transmit their education to the proletarian masses. A big reason for this has been the Stalinist total rejection of bourgeois culture as irredeemable decadence, a rejection that the Left has since naturalized. By throwing away the baby together with the bathwater with regards to culture, where does that leave us?

Το αποτέλεσμα της παρακμής της αστικής κουλτούρας είναι ότι οι καλύτερες πτυχές της έχουν ξεχαστεί ακόμη και από τους περισσότερους αστούς διανοούμενους, διαγραφόμενες από τον μεταμοντερνισμό, με πιθανή εξαίρεση την πρόοδο στις φυσικές επιστήμες.[23] Φαίνεται ότι υπάρχουν πολύ λίγοι διανοούμενοι, είτε από την αστική τάξη είτε από την προλεταριακή τάξη, που έχουν λάβει παιδεία στις καλύτερες παραδόσεις του παρελθόντος και που μπορούν έτσι να μεταδώσουν την παιδεία τους στις προλεταριακές μάζες. Ένας μεγάλος λόγος για αυτό ήταν η σταλινική ολοκληρωτική απόρριψη της αστικής κουλτούρας ως παρακμιακή, μια απόρριψη που έκτοτε φυσικοποιήθηκε από την Αριστερά. Καίοντας τα χλωρά μαζί με τα ξερά όσον αφορά τον πολιτισμό, πού καταλήγουμε όμως;

The fact of being a human being is infinitely more important than all the singularities that distinguish human beings; it is never the given that confers superiority: “virtue,” as the ancients called it, is defined at the level of “what depends on us.” The same drama of flesh and spirit, and of finitude and transcendence, plays itself out in both sexes; both are eaten away by time, stalked by death, they have the same essential need of the other; and they can take the same glory from their freedom; if they knew how to savor it, they would no longer be tempted to contend for false privileges; and fraternity could then be born between them.
